Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

Do you have the gravitas and passion to lead a world-leading academic programme that aims to educate current and emerging leaders and innovators to drive forward transformation of the construction industry?

Applications are invited from suitably qualified candidates for the post of Course Director for the Construction Engineering Master’s degree programme (CEM) at the University of Cambridge (http://www.construction.cam.ac.uk/cem-programme).

The CEM is a two-year, part-time, multidisciplinary leadership programme run by the Laing O’Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology in the University of Cambridge Department of Engineering, in association with Cambridge Judge Business School, and in collaboration with academics from other Departments and Universities. The course aims to transform the construction industry by empowering agents of change to meet the future challenges of society.

The programme provides a unique opportunity for professionals in the construction sector to step beyond their immediate context and to explore the future of the industry alongside leading government, industry and academic experts. The course covers the industry in its broadest sense: from finance, planning and procurement through to the physical construction, operation and management of buildings and infrastructure.

The Course Director will lead the development, management, teaching, and ongoing evaluation of the CEM programme to ensure the very highest academic quality and professional standards are met, commensurate with the University of Cambridge's reputation as one of the world's greatest seats of learning.  You will design and deliver the course to meet agreed pedagogical and financial targets as well as engaging and contracting a large and diverse group of programme contributors drawn from academia, industry and government in the UK and abroad. The CEM syllabus is delivered by a mix of face-to-face, virtual, blended and digital offerings using a range of leadership approaches – bringing together diverse stakeholders to provide an exceptional quality programme.  You will also engage actively with employers and employing institutions and be responsible for recruitment of each cohort of students, as well as understanding and complying with the regulatory requirements of Cambridge University Master’s programmes.

Candidates should preferably have a PhD or Masters degree in a construction related subject and provide evidence of: a strong track record in programme or project design and delivery, teaching experience, an interest in engaging with interdisciplinary research communities, and professional experience in the construction sector. The post-holder will be required to work collaboratively with other stakeholders across the University and beyond. Alongside strong interpersonal and communication skills, the candidate will also have an understanding, enthusiasm, and flair for engaging academically with a broad spectrum of colleagues and students and a commitment to the principles and delivery of continuing education. It is hoped the successful candidate will take up appointment as soon as possible.
