Directions

By train

Train travellers are advised to take a taxi from the station, or one of the frequent buses (see below) to the West Cambridge site. When you exit the station, turn left and the bus stop is 100m ahead.

By bus

Take the Universal (U) bus service (see timetable and route) in the direction of ‘Eddington', and alight at the 'William Gates Building' stop. Walk down the side street to your left, and the Civil Engineering Building is to the right of Roger Needham Building straight ahead of you. Single journeys cost £2.20 (£1 for University Card holders), or you can buy a £3 'Day Rover Ticket' allowing all-day travel on Whippet-operated services.

By car

Via M25/M11: Exit at Junction 13. Drive into Cambridge on the Madingley Road (A1303). After approximately half a kilometre, turn right into the West Cambridge Site onto JJ Thomson Avenue. After 100m, turn left and follow the road round to your right. The Civil Engineering building is then to the left.

Parking

There is a visitor car park on the West Cambridge campus and two spaces reserved for disabled access immediately outside the Civil Engineering Building. The visitor car park (Car park 8) is displayed on the map above and requires a code for access. Contact us before your visit so that we may give you the car park code for the week.

We also encourage you to make use of the plentiful public transport options available, including a large park-and-ride car park near West Campus - Madingley Road Park & Ride  - and either walk (approximately 10 minutes) or catch the Universal bus (see above) to JJ Thomson Avenue. Parking at the Park and Ride is free for up to 18 hours.

Travelling by coach

National Express run regular coach services from London Victoria and other destinations to the Cambridge Bus Station on Drummer Street. There are also regular coach services to London airports.
