Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

Dr Danny Murguia, LORC Senior Research Associate, presented two research papers at the 32nd Annual Conference for the International Group for Lean Construction in Auckland, New Zealand.

The first paper, entitled Automated Data Capture and Analysis to Detect Process Waste in Interior Finishing Work, co-authored with Dr Ashan Asmone, Asitha Rathnayake and Prof Campbell Middleton, presents an approach to automatically visualise construction flows, detect process waste and identify actionable improvements in interior finishing work. By using actual construction data, which was digitally captured using cameras on construction sites, the researchers are developing a method to interpret, integrate, and visualise performance to improve situational awareness and support enhanced de decision-making.

The second paper, entitled Reduction of Floor Cycle Time Variability in High-Rise Building Construction was selected as a plenary paper and was written in collaboration with industry partners from Mexico. The paper presents performance data of the reinforced concrete structural frame in high-rise buildings. The results show a detailed planning approach that supports performance and productivity improvement with significant benefits for the client, contractor, and the workforce.

Dr Murguia was also a member of the panel of experts who provided feedback at the conference’s PhD Winter School.
