Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

On 28 January, our Centre Director, Professor Cam Middleton, delivered a compelling presentation at the Construction Productivity Conference in London. He discussed our ongoing research on performance and productivity in the construction sector, as well as the challenges that affect productivity in this industry.

The conference explored productivity challenges, particularly the UK’s increasing reliance on a small group of high-performing ‘frontier’ companies to drive growth. These companies, producing nearly four times the output of average businesses, provide valuable insights into success stories that can help raise industry standards.

Key takeaways from Cam’s presentation included:

  • Practical applications of our performance measurement framework
  • Insights into our current performance benchmarks
  • A call to action for the industry to adopt consistent performance measurement, ensuring we have the data needed to demonstrate value to clients and influence policymakers.

This was a fantastic opportunity to showcase our research and continue the important conversations with the Construction Productivity Taskforce.
