Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

Dr Danny Murguia, LORC Research Associate and Asitha Rathnayake, PhD Candidate, presented their research work at the 31st Annual Conference for the International Group for Lean Construction in Lille, France.

Using performance data from UK-based projects, our researchers presented two papers examining productivity from the view of construction flows, showing how performance can be improved by analysing the production system. The findings offer valuable insights to planners and project managers, empowering them to make informed interventions and drive improvements in on-site productivity.

Asitha Rathnayake presented a paper entitled Analysing the Impact of Construction Flow on Productivity, which a panel of experts selected as a plenary paper. Plenary papers are deemed of general interest to conference participants and were reviewed and independently selected by two lean construction specialists with over 40 years of combined experience in the IGLC and lean construction.

Dr Murguia presented a paper entitled Master Schedule Optimisation With the Use of Flowlines and Performance Data and introduced an operation strategy to analyse as-built construction data using master-level flowlines to optimise project duration. The results showed significant room for improvement, and findings are currently being implemented on new construction projects.
