Dr Danny Murguia, Assistant Research Professor at the Cambridge Laing O'Rourke Centre, recently participated in the international workshop Designing Trustworthy and Sustainable Futures for Smart Buildings and Territories, held in Paris on 5 June 2026.
As part of a panel on the security, ethics, and social impact of innovation, Danny delivered a presentation entitled “Trust, Transparency and Worker Engagement for AI-Enabled Decision-Making and Productivity Improvement.” His presentation explored how trust, transparent data-sharing practices, and active workforce participation are essential for the successful adoption of artificial intelligence in construction and infrastructure projects.
Drawing on ongoing research and industry pilot projects, Dr Murguia highlighted the importance of worker-centred approaches to data collection and decision-making. He discussed how greater stakeholder engagement can help organisations overcome barriers to AI adoption while supporting long-term productivity improvements across the sector.
The workshop brought together researchers and industry experts from across Europe to discuss the future of smart buildings, digital innovation, and sustainable development.
