Research by Construction Engineering Masters (CEM) alumnus Andrew Traill has been showcased at one of the construction sector's leading international conferences, highlighting the impact of CEM graduates in advancing industry innovation.
Andrew co-authored the paper, "Design for Manufacture, Assembly, and Improved Productivity in Bridge Construction," with Dr Laura Florez Perez of University College London (UCL). The paper was accepted for presentation at the Creative Construction Conference 2026 (CCC2026), held in Sopron, Hungary, from 29 June to 2 July 2026.
Dr Florez Perez presented the research on behalf of the team during the conference's Automation and Robotics in Construction technical session.
The paper explores how Design for Manufacture and Assembly (DfMA) principles can be applied to bridge construction to improve productivity, streamline assembly processes and support more efficient project delivery. By bringing together digital design and manufacturing approaches, the research contributes to the growing drive towards industrialised construction and improved infrastructure delivery.
The Creative Construction Conference is an internationally recognised forum that brings together researchers and industry professionals to share the latest advances in construction engineering, digital technologies, sustainability and innovation. The acceptance of Andrew's paper reflects both the quality of the research and its relevance to current industry challenges.
