Academics and researchers from Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú visited the University of Cambridge on 19 and 20 May for a two-day workshop exploring how artificial intelligence can support post-earthquake infrastructure assessment and long-term resilience.
The workshop, AI for Post-Earthquake Management: Capacity, Skills and Policy, was hosted by Dr Danny Murguia, Cambridge Laing O’Rourke Assistant Research Professor, with support from the British Council.
Bringing together experts from Peru and the UK, the workshop focused on how AI and technology-enabled methods can improve damage detection, strengthen engineering knowledge exchange, and support the development of safer, more resilient and sustainable infrastructure in earthquake-prone regions.
During the workshop, participants explored opportunities to strengthen collaboration between Peruvian and UK engineering expertise, identify key priorities for future joint research, and shape a roadmap for technology-driven post-earthquake management.
The workshop forms part of a wider commitment to international research collaboration, capacity building and the use of smart engineering approaches to address urgent infrastructure challenges.
