Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

Our CEM12 have successfully presented their research findings at our 12th Annual Construction Engineering Masters Dissertation Conference today. Congratulations to all the presenters for their exceptional work!

The discussions covered fascinating topics such as applying sports science in construction, promoting STEM fields among schoolgirls and the impact of hybrid working on knowledge dissemination in engineering design.

Dr Gavin Davies, CEM Course Director, opened the conference and stated, "We need to address two specific issues. First, we need our north star to be broad societal needs for the longer term. Secondly, we must address challenges in integrated ways. This means joining up across industry siloes, governments and the private sector. This means system thinking. This means focusing on outcomes first, not inputs."

The conference serves as a platform to explore innovative research outcomes and address pressing challenges within the construction industry. It provides invaluable opportunities for knowledge exchange, professional connections and meaningful relationships.

Nurturing knowledge and character development lies at the heart of our Construction Engineering Masters programme. With a blend of vision, leadership, and collaboration backed by creativity, brainpower, evidence and data, we aim to foster a comprehensive understanding and facilitate discussions in a safe and supportive environment, transcending organisational boundaries.
