Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

The EPSRC Centre for Doctoral Training in Future Infrastructure and Built Environment (FIBE CDT) are currently looking to recruit talented students to carry out cutting edge research within a broad range of core and interdisciplinary civil engineering topics. A number of fully funded studentships which cover fees plus a tax-free stipend (currently set at £14,296 per annum) are available.

Applicants are not required to have a proposed PhD topic or supervisor in order to apply and the programme is designed to allow you to explore your interests during an MRes year through labs, courses, group projects and involvement with industry partners. Studentships are currently available for two types of programme which are offered by the FIBE CDT:

 MRes + PhD programme

This programme is structured as a 1 year MRes + 3 year PhD. Training is undertaken through modules in core civil engineering subjects, elective modules and project work in order to develop your research interests and prepare you for your PhD studies.

 I+ programme

Students on the I+ programme spend 1 year working with an industry partner, prior to starting the MRes + PhD programme at the FIBE CDT. During your year in industry, you will have the opportunity to join the graduate training scheme delivered by your industry partner and also to participate in FIBE CDT activities at the University of Cambridge.
