Biography

Shaun’s early research was in the field of geothermal reservoir engineering. This looked at the response of reservoirs to injection of cold water, and how this could lead to increased production from these energy sources. The upshot of the research programme to which Shaun contributed is that 20 years later there are now significant infrastructure projects in Northern California with pipelines carrying treated waste water to the Geysers reservoir.

His research since 2000 has been in the field of low energy natural ventilation. This was initially conducted at the BP Institute. This led to a breakthrough in ventilation strategy, the filing of a patent, and the formation of a venture capital backed company called Breathing Buildings. This company was acquired by Volution Holdings in 2016 and is now part of a multi-national ventilation company which is pioneering development of hybrid ventilation technology.
