Paul has a background in aerospace production, but has worked as a project and programme manager in construction and building since the early 1990s. His academic research has included management decision-making, technology adoption, firm and industry evolution, and manufacturing management. His experience in managing large academic research programmes includes the Innovative Manufacturing Research Centre (IMRC), at the Institute for Manufacturing, and the Cambridge Centre for Smart Infrastructure and Construction (CSIC), of which he was the first Director.
