Biography

Gabriel Martín obtained his PhD degree in Computer Engineering from the University of Extremadura, Caceres, Spain, in 2013. He received several prizes for his research including the "Best Iberian PhD Dissertation in Information Systems and Technologies," awarded by the Iberian Association for Information Systems and Technologies, and the "Outstanding PhD Dissertation Award" from the University of Extremadura. He was a predoctoral research associate (funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation) with the Hyperspectral Computing Laboratory and a postdoctoral researcher at Instituto de Telecomunicaçoes, Lisbon, Portugal. He also worked for several technology start-up companies as performance analytics engineer and data scientist.

His research interests include multi-temporal InSAR analysis, deep learning, and hyperspectral image processing, specifically the areas of unmixing and compressive sensing of hyperspectral images, as well as the efficient processing of these images in High Performance Computing architectures such as GPUs. He has authored and co-authored more than 60 publications, including several book chapters, journal citation report (JCR) papers, and peer-reviewed international conference papers. He is a reviewer for the IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Applied Earth Observations and Remote Sensing and the IEEE Transactions on Geoscience and Remote Sensing.

Gabriel joined the Laing O'Rourke Centre in June 2020 to work on developing new machine learning methods that allow monitoring civil infrastructures at scale by using remote sensing and earth observation techniques.
