Deryck Chan is a generalist engineer with an interest in science communication. He grew up in Hong Kong, studied engineering at Cambridge, and worked for Engineering Ministries International and Laing O'Rourke before undertaking his doctoral research on long-term basement heave (2016-20). During his time as a research student, he taught various undergraduate courses in civil engineering and computer engineering, led a Bible study for postgraduate students, and enjoyed sharing tea and coffee with his colleagues. Outside his engineering career, he volunteers as an administrator of Wikipedia.
