Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

Kristen served as Course Director for the Construction Engineering Master's degree from 2017, until she was appointed a Cambridge University Lecturer in Engineering, Environment and Sustainable Development, based in the Department of Engineering, in 2020.

Kristen has international experience in professional practice and in research, providing a unique perspective on civil engineering, construction, resilience and sustainability.

Her core areas of research interest are centred on themes of disaster risk management, post-disaster reconstruction, sustainable development of cities and resilience analysis. This interest encompasses issues surrounding limitations in long-term thinking for infrastructure planning and delivery. Kristen is currently supervising research on topics covering: climate change adaptation of roads; data management in infrastructure inter-dependency modelling; the adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals in engineering practice and cost management on major infrastructure projects.

Kristen also collaborates on resilience and sustainability projects linked to industry. She is a leading member of the Technical Advisory Group for the Resilience Shift – a five year programme funded by Lloyds Register Foundation and hosted by Arup, with the goal of facilitating a shift towards resilience in critical infrastructure sectors.

Kristen is also Fellow & Director of Studies in Engineering at St Edmund’s College
