Laing O'Rourke Centre for Construction Engineering and Technology

 

We are looking to appoint several outstanding applicants to the position of Research Assistant/Associate in Cambridge Construction "Do Tank" to undertake high-quality research focussed on transforming the construction sector by using evidenced-based research findings to inform thought leadership and influence policy that can be implemented by industry and government (primarily in the UK). 

Each appointee will work on one of the following areas:

  • Productivity and performance measurement in construction - developing a generic framework for consistent evaluation of performance to improve decision-making and productivity.
  • Social value and well-being, for example, mental health - studying how these are currently recognised, evaluated and addressed in the construction sector and developing tools for improving outcomes.
  • Skills in the UK construction sector. Gap analysis and roadmap of skills required in construction now and in the future.
  • Procurement strategies to incentivise improved outcomes in construction.
  • Digital Engineering - automatic collection, collation, analysis and presentation of construction industry data using computer vision, signal processing and machine learning tools to enhance decision-making.

Applicants must demonstrate the following:

  • Experience working with industry partners and considerable expertise in one or more of the topic areas listed above
  • A keen interest in working on the topic research scope as listed above
  • Excellent level of English language proficiency, communication and interpersonal skills.

Candidates will need to be able to: a) think "outside the box" to identify problems with current practices and devise robust solutions, b) tackle multidisciplinary challenges, and c) adjust their critical thinking and research skills to a wider research agenda.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £27,929 - £32,348; Research Associate: £34,308 - £42,155

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
