Bella Nguyen is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Engineering sponsored by London Underground, European Commission Marie Curie IRSES and Cambridge Overseas Trust. She holds a Master of Philosophy in Engineering from the University of Cambridge where she was awarded grants from Cambridge EcoHouse Initiatives, Santander Latin America and the Arthur Shercliff Memorial Trust for her research on illegal slum developments in Ecuador. Her current research project is for Transport for London (TfL) investigating methods to detect and prevent bridge strikes. Bella is a member of Darwin College. She is supervised by Dr. Ioannis Brilakis and advised by Dr. Mohammed Elshafie. She is a visiting scholar at the Georgia Institute of Technology supervised by Prof. Patricio Vela.
